Weight Loss Information

Shape Up for Summer

A weight loss program can only succeed if you are prepared to change.  You are in your current shape because you have been eating the wrong foods. To lose weight needs a commitment to change your eating habits.

Many "fad" weight loss products offer the convenience of popping a few pills,  downing a diet shake,  or strapping on that electronic stimulation device,  and you will lose weight.  If that was the case,  we would all be slim and trim,  ready for Summer.

Unfortunately,  the reality of weight loss tells us this is not the case.  The weight loss formula is actually quite simple :

Weight Gain = Energy eaten > energy burned
Weight Loss = Energy eaten < energy burned

If it is that simple,  how can we use this knowledge to our advantage ???

We can

This can be done in 4 steps that you continually revisit,  refining your technique and adjusting it where necessary :

Step 1 : Find out how much energy (calories/kilojoules) your body needs
Step 2 : Find out how much energy (calories/kilojoules) you eat
Step 3 : Calculate the difference
Step 4 : Analyse how you can reduce the energy eaten and maximise the energy burned.

Without this knowledge,  it is almost impossible.  Do you know exactly the energy content of what you eat,  how much energy you burn ??  Without help and access to this information,  YOU CANNOT LOSE WEIGHT.

BENUTRIWISE is your HELP

The software lets you create your own unique user profile (you can have up to 6 profiles loaded,  so you can involve the whole family) to enable you to define your weight loss goals and monitor your progress towards those goals.

Step 1 : You load your details (height, weight, sex, and activity levels)
The software calculates your body's energy requirements as well as the levels needed to lose weight.
Step 2 : You log all the food you eat (not just the healthy stuff). You log all the liquids you drink (again, not just the healthy stuff)
The system calculates the total energy you consumed in a day,  and compares it to your body's energy requirements.
Step 3 : You analyse the results and it  is then easy to see whether you are on track with your weight loss program or not.

Can it be that simple ??

YES
Monitor your daily progress, ensuring that you are meeting your daily energy goals.  You start out eating the foods you normally do,  and then do the analysis.  Modify your eating habits where necessary to reduce the energy levels to a point where they meet your target. This on-going refinement enables you to adjust your eating habits as your body's needs and your goals change.

What if I Exceed My Energy Quota for the Day ?

Because you are analysing your food intakes,  you will be equipped with the knowledge as to how much you exceeded your energy requirements,  and can easily modify your eating habits the next day to get back on track.  Even if you exceed your quota for a number of days - no problem. Start the new day determined to meet the energy goals you have set, and commit to achieving your weight loss goals.

Is there anything else I can do to lose weight ?

Back to the weight loss formula,  there is a way to increase your body's energy requirements - EXERCISE.  By starting an exercise program you can tilt the weight loss formula towards more weight loss by burning more energy.
Most people who are wanting to lose weight always equate EXERCISE with slim, toned bodies in the Gym, pounding the treadmill or lifting heavy weights.  The reality is - most people on a weight loss program do not want to be in the gym.
Any form of exercise is better than none.  Start slowly and try and find an exercise that you enjoy.  Try simple techniques like parking at the far end of the Mall parking, taking the stairs rather than the elevator or escalator.  An evening stroll with the family is also a good place to start.  As is the case with your eating habits,  in order for your exercise program to work,  you have to do something you enjoy.  Choose your preferred exercise and then commit to doing it regularly,  preferably daily but at least 3 times a week.

Am I free to eat what I want ?

It is your body.  Eating a packet of chips is not going to help you lose weight (high concentration of energy for minimal food value),  but if you do, log the chips you ate,  and you can readily see the effect it had on your goals. This way,  you are free to eat what you want (even food that will not help you reach your goal).
No-one is dictating to you what you must eat - this is the key to weight loss success.

Popping pills, eating foods or downing shakes that you do not enjoy CANNOT last.  Sooner or later you are going to give up on your "diet" and the chance to lose weight is gone.

By analysing the foods you eat and enjoy,  and knowing their energy content,  you can modify your choices and still eat the food you like.
Doing this,  your weight loss program becomes a way of life (lifestyle change),  and the weight you lose will be PERMANENT
